Rodent Control in Windcrest, Live Oak and Universal City

Head northeast out of San Antonio on I-35 or Loop 410 and you hit a string of small cities: Windcrest, about 11 miles from downtown, then Live Oak, then Universal City next to Randolph Air Force Base. Universal City was first platted in 1931 and incorporated in 1960, and Pat Booker Road is its main street.

Plenty of the homes out here have some age on them, with brick veneer, attached garages and older attic vents. Mice through weep holes and garage doors, and roof rats in the attic, make up most of the calls.

Military Families and Rentals

With Randolph nearby, plenty of houses here are rentals that turn over every few years. Rodent problems can sit unnoticed between tenants. If you're moving into a rental, look in the garage, under the sinks and up the attic hatch before you unpack. Droppings are easier to spot in an empty house. Tell the landlord in writing if you find any.

Garages and Backyards

Attached garages full of moving boxes are perfect for mice. Get boxes up on shelves, store pet food in sealed bins, and replace the bottom seal on the garage door if you can see daylight under it. Backyards with fruit trees and fences that connect from yard to yard let roof rats move down the whole block. Talk to your neighbors. One house sealing up helps, but the block sealing up helps more.

For a careful look at where they're getting in, ask about a rodent inspection.
